Black bears are more tolerant of people and can often be found in the trash of national parks. A mother will still be very defensive of her cubs but will flee to the trees if possible.
Black bears are often confused with grizzlies. In fact they are much smaller and will often run rather than confront man. They are also great climbers and swimmers!
