Ascending

My husband and I were vacationing in Costa Rica and walking up a steep hill to our favorite coffee shop when we spied this sloth in the trees on the side of the road. They tend to only come down once a week to go to the bathroom and spend the rest of their time high in the treetops. We watched this sloth for almost an hour, to the amusement of locals who were working on the road! I was fascinated and the easy but precise movements and the beguiling "Mona Lisa" smile on the sloth's face.

This 3-toed sloth was wandering up and down the trees near Costa Rica's Manuel Antonio Park.
