Harbor seals are one of the more timid of the pinnipeds and will often flee to the water if approached. From boats they can often be observed lounging on rocks, watching any passersby. If they have pups, they should not be disturbed as they may abandon their pups.
Harbor seals perch on rocks in all sorts of positions that look uncomfortable to us but to them are as comfortable as a Tempur-pedic!
