Brown pelicans were on the brink of extinction due to the effects of DDT but have made a miraculous comeback! As they develop teir breeding plumage they get bright yellow on their heads and white necks. They are amazing as they glide over waves or plunge from great heights hitting the water at tremendous force to catch fish. Each year the tides shift bringing huge waves called Mavericks, only undertaken by the best surfers. I liked tieing in the power of these majestic birds and the power of the surf.
