Save the Kelp!
Otters are crucial to the ecology of the kelp forest. The kelp forest provides protection and food for many species in the Monterey Bay. When otters were hunted to near extinction, the purple anemones got overpopulated and the kelp forest suffered. Now that the otter populations are recovering, they eat the anemones and the kelp forest is recovering. Otters even develop purple staining on their teeth!
