Oil on canvas.
24 x 18"
I love to watch hornbills, they are curious and comical. It was by chance that this elephant came at just the right moment. I loved the contrast between the gray rough skin of the elephant with the black and white soft feathers and bright bill of the Yellow-billed hornbill.
While on safari in South Africa, we were watching this Yellow-billed hornbill resting on a branch preening himself when a young bull elephant approached from seemingly out of nowhere. The elephant had no interest in the bird and the bird happily took leave of his perch.
